Friday 1 December - Sunday 3 December -The Friends' of Southwark Cathedral Christmas Market

A festive atmosphere and delightful range of stalls giving opportunity for all to find that special something at Christmas.  Mince pies and mulled wine also available to buy.

Sunday 3 December - Advent Sunday

The beginning of the new Church year and the preparations for Christmas.

11.00am - Choral Eucharist

3.00pm - Evening Prayer

6.00pm - Advent Procession - Looking for Light

One of the most beautiful service of the year, the Gentlemen and Boys of the Cathedral Choir leads us in a service taking us from darkness to light in the candlelit Cathedral.  All are welcome.

Wednesday 6 December - Christingle

Join us for a hands-on Christingle making workshop and service for children and families, with the lighting of our Christmas tree.

4.00pm - Christingle-making Workshop

What is Christingle?  Each piece of the Christingle holds special symbolism to help children understand the importance of Jesus and the Gospel, and it's relevance at Christmas time.   Children attending this workshop will be given an orange, ribbon, fruit, wooden sticks and a candle.

The orange represents the world, the red ribbon represents the blood of Jesus, the fruit and sweets represent God's gifts - the fruits of the earth and the four seasons and the lighted candle represents Christ, the light of the world.

5.30pm - Christingle Service followed by the Borough Market Christmas lights Switch-on

Saturday 9 December - Candlelit Advent Vigil

2.00pm - 5.00pm

Advent is a time of watching and waiting in darkness for the coming of Christ, the true light.  We invite you to lay down your shopping bags and your anxieties for the coming festivities and spend some time in the quiet of the Cathedral with the silence punctuated by brief liturgy, music and reflections.  All are welcome.

Friday 15 December - Southwark Cathedral Choir Christmas Concert

7.30pm - 9.30pm

Accompanied by the Chameleon Arts Orchestra, the Cathedral's Boys and Lay Clerks Choir perform Ralph Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Christmas Carols and Arcangelo Corelli's Christmas Concerto (Op 6, No 8) followed by traditional Christmas Music and Carols.

Sunday 17 and Thursday 21 December - The Cathedral Carol Services

6.00pm both evenings

Traditional Pattern of Lessons and Carols.  Come and take part in traditional preparation for the joys of Christmas.  Both of these services are very busy and we recommend you start queuing early for a seat.

Thursday 21 December - Cathedral Sing-In

12.45pm - 1.45pm

Led by the Dean with our Thursday Singers choir, sing carols and traditional songs in celebration for the whole community.

Wednesday 20 December - Borough Market Demo Kitchen

The Very Revd Andrew Nunn, Dean of Southwark makes a Christmas treat at Borough Market's Demonstration Kitchen - free for all who enjoy good food and a laugh!

Sunday 24 December - Christmas Eve

4.00pm - Building the Crib

The Christmas Story is told as children help to build the crib.  Carols and fun for the whole family.

11.30pm  - Midnight Mass

Christmas begins with the Midnight celebration of the Eucharist.  Doors open at 10.30pm.

Monday 25 December - Christmas Day

There is no Christmas without Christ - so come to the Cathedral on Christmas Day

8.30am - Morning Prayer

9.00am - Eucharist with Carols

11.00am - Choral Eucharist

Sunday 7 January - The Feast of Epiphany

The celebration of the arrival of the Magi to visit the infant Jesus.

9.00am - Eucharist

11.00am - Choral Eucharist with the Presentation of Gifts

3.00pm - Choral Evensong on the Eve of the Baptism of Christ
